Shabana is 28 years old. She has three children. Her two daughters, Muskan and Mehek, are 7 and 4 years old respectively. Muskan wants to become a teacher. Her son, Mehbubkhan is 6 years old and wants to become a doctor. Shabana has been married for 9 years to Momhad Hanif, a carpenter and truck driver. She lives with her husband and three children.
Shabana received an education up until the age of 16. She then completed a one year tailoring course. She did not work much after marriage, mainly living as a housewife. When she did work, she worked from home and managed to earn Rs 1000 per month (€14 per month). Her husband brought home a monthly salary of Rs 5000 (€70 per month).
Shabana joined the Satara Fashion Project to earn money to enable her to support her children. She also wanted to learn new stitching and cutting methods.
“I was tired of sitting at home so I joined the course. It’s a bit difficult, but I am managing”
Shabana’s dream is to buy her own house and earn enough money to send her children to school.
