Laxmi M. Naidu is 32 years old. She has been married since the age of 21 to a wholesaler of various brands of alcohol. She has two daughters: Vasavi who is five years old and Jeshtavi who is two years old. She has three sisters , two of which are married housewives and one who is not married and lives with her mother. Laxmi lives together with her husband, two children, and her parents-in-law.

Laxmi attended school until she was 16 years old. She then studied design and dress-making at college for three years. Until she had her second daughter, she worked at home teaching embroidery. From her Satara income and her husband’s income, they earned Rs 6000 per month (€87 per month), from which they supported six people.

She now works for Satara as a production manager, assisting and supervising the other women.

Laxmi joined the Satara Fashion Project because she wanted to teach the women and learn more about tailoring techniques and design.

“I am enjoying it very much to teach those women, and to learn about Western fashion. The training I receive from the AMFI graduates is challenging me.”

Her dream is to help women that are not allowed to work outside the home. She wants to provide them with skills and enable them to start up their own enterprise from home.
