Newsletter winter 2009
Dear Friends, most of you have supported the creation and establishment of Satara in one way or another. So to begin with, we’d like to thank you for your support. We aim to be more than clothes, and more than sustainable fashion. We want to mobilize a movement of positive young people, inspire others and be inspired ourselves. We hope this first newsletter helps to spread the word about what we’re doing, and highlight the positive things that others are doing.
The first piece of good news is that our brand new website is now live:
Visit www.satarafashion.com and be inspired!
It is a platform to showcase what we have done, what we will do, and why. You can expect many more tweaks and additions, and from February 2010 it will include a webshop where you will be able to purchase our debut Satara Collection spring/summer 2010. But you can already discover the stories, experiences, and motivation behind the collection. Explore biographies, pictures, and videos of the underprivileged women who participate in this fashion project, discover the concept and culture of hand-woven Khadi fabric, and learn about the role of Satara in all this.
We have been a little overwhelmed in the last month; receiving two awards in two consecutive weeks, both in recognition of our contribution towards the achievement of the United Nations Millennium Development Goals. The first was the Millennium Doelen Award organized by COS, presented to us at the beautiful Provincial Government buildings in
We are still searching for the right location for our much anticipated concept store. This will serve as a creative space where you will not only be able to purchase our collection, but also view art exhibitions and documentary screenings or take part in brainstorm sessions. We envision a platform for young people with big ideas who want to make a difference to the world we live in. You can also help in this search: if you happen to know anyone with an empty space in
We are also very happy to already begin the preparation for our second collection, the Satara Collection fall/winter 2010. This brings with it new challenges and new opportunities, starting with the training of an expanded group of women in the use of new fabrics and knitting techniques. Training and production will again take place in our beloved studio in
We will be posting updates on the new collection on the website. Next to that, our news stream will keep you updated on developments such as the stores where Satara garments will be sold.
In the meantime, be the change you wish to see.
Peace & love
